THE NCRM KICKS OFF KING DAY CELEBRATION WITH THEME

"COME TOO FAR TO TURN BACK NOW"

ON NATIONAL HOLIDAY MONDAY, JANUARY 16, THE NATIONAL CIVIL RIGHTS MUSEUM

WILL REMEMBER THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR., ONE

OF THE MOST PROLIFIC HUMANITARIANS AND LEADERS OF THE AMERICAN CIVIL RIGHTS

MOVEMENT.  THE FOCUS OF THE CELEBRATION IS COMMUNITY SERVICE AND SOCIAL

JUSTICE.  ON KING DAY, THERE WILL BE A SPECIAL ADMISSION RATE OF $5,  8AM- 6PM. 

AN OPTIONAL $3 ADMISSION WITH CAN GOOD DONATIONS FOR MID SOUTH FOOD BANK.

A FREE ADMISSION OPTION IS AVAILABLE FOR BLOOD DONATIONS TO THE LIFEBLOOD

DRIVE.  KING DAY HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE A HEALTH PAVILION, ENTERTAINMENT AND

CHILDREN'S ACTIVITY TENT 10 AM-4PM. WLOK WILL BE BROADCASTING LIVE FROM

6AM-5PM.

 

HEAL THE HOOD PROGRAM AIMS TO CUT DOWN YOUTH

VIOLENCE

OUT OF 224 HOMICIDES THIS YEAR IN MEMPHIS, MANY OF THE VICTIMS AND SUSPECTS

HAVE BEEN UNDER THE AGE OF 18.  THAT IS WHY THE MEMPHIS SHELBY COMMISSION

IS PARTNERING WITH A HICKORY HILL FOUNDATION TO HELP CURB THE ISSUE OF

YOUTH VIOLENCE IN MEMPHIS.  THE HEAL THE HOOD FOUNDATION ALREADY PROVIDES

A SAFE PLACE FOR KIDS IN HICKORY HILL TO RECEIVE MENTORSHIP.  TUESDAY

MORNING, THE MEMPHIS SHELBY CRIME COMMISSION ANNOUNCED A PARTNERSHIP

WITH THE HEAL THE HOOD FOUNDATION TO HELP THEM IN THEIR ATTEMPT TO SAVE

AS MANY YOUNG PEOPLE LIFE OF VIOLENCE.  THE HOURS AT THE HEAL THE HOOD

FOUNDATION ARE 3pm to 7 pm, MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY.

 

VOLUNTEER 4 MEMPHIS TO HONOR DR. KING THROUGH

COMMUNITY SERVICE

FOUR DAYS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE WILL TAKE PLACE IN JANUARY IN ORDER TO

HONOR DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.  VOLUNTEER 4 MEMPHIS IS PART OF THE

FOUR DAYS OF SERVICE.  VOLUNTEER 4 MEMPHIS IS PLANNING FOUR DAYS OF

SERVICE WITH THE GOAL OF EMPOWERING OTHERS WHILE BUILDING UP THEIR

COMMUNITIES. THE DAYS OF SERVICE RUN FROM JANUARY 13-16 AND IS IN

PARTNERSHIP WITH THE UNITED WAY OF THE MID-SOUTH. FROM YOUTH & EDUCATION

DAY, SERVICE SUNDAY, FAMILY AND FRIENDS DAY, TO CLEAN UP MONDAY, THERE'S 

GUARANTEED TO BE SOMETHING YOU WILL BE INTERESTED IN DOING WHILE MAKING

THE WORLD AROUND US A LITTLE BETTER.    ORGANIZERS HOPE THAT

IT WILL BRIDGE BARRIERS AND LEAVE A TRAIL OF GOOD IN THE COMMUNITIES THAT
