ST. JUDE MEMPHIS MARATHON RAISES ALMOST $2M MORE

THAN LAST YEAR

A RECORD 23 THOUSAND RUNNERS MADE HISTORY ON THE STREETS OF

DOWNTOWN MEMPHIS ON SATURDAY MORNING, AS PART OF ST. JUDE'S

BIGGEST MEMPHIS MARATHON WEEKEND EVER.  THE ANNUAL EVENT IS

BELOVED IN MEMPHIS AND A KEY PART OF THE HOSPITAL'S FUNDRAISING

EFFORTS.  BETWEEN THE 5K, 10K, HALF AND FULL MARATHONS, RUNNERS

RAISED AN ESTIMATED $10 MILLIION FOR THE HOSPITAL, ALMOST $2

MORE THAN IN 2015.

 

MEMPHIS HIGH SCHOOLS BRING HOME 4 STATE

CHAMPIONSHIPS

FOUR MEMPHIS AREA HIGH SCHOOLS STRIVED FOR PERFECTION AT THE

STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS AND DOMINATED.  THE WHS TIGERS BEAT 

MURFREESBORO OAKLAND, WINNING THE 6A STATE TITLE.  TREZEVANT

HIGH SCHOOL BROUGHT HOME THE 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE. 

EAST HIGH SCHOOL HEADED BACK TO MEMPHIS AS THE 4A STATE

CHAMPIONS.  LAST, BUT NOT LEAST, LAUSANNE COLLEGIATE SCHOOL

WINS ITS FIRST EVER STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. THIS WAS AS BIG WIN FOR

THE BLUFF CITY!

 

ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS ON SCS CHOPPING BLOCK

TWO ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS COULD BE DEMOLISHED NEXT YEAR TO MAKE

WAY FOR A PAIR OF BRAND NEW SCHOOLS.  THE RECOMMENDATION OF

SHELBY COUNTY SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT DORSEY HOPSON. HOPSON

MADE THE PRESENTATION LAST EVENING AT THE SHELBY COUNTY BOARD

OF EDUCATION WORK SESSION MEETING .  ONE OF THE SCHOOLS

RECOMMENDED FOR CLOSURE IS KNIGHT ROAD ELEMENTARY.  THE

PLAN IS TO CLOSE SEVEN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS WHILE

CONSOLIDATING STUDENTS IN SOME OF THE SCHOOLS, WHILE BUILDING

THREE NEW SCHOOLS.   THIS PROCESS COULD TAKE UP TO THREE YEARS

PENDING APPROVAL AND FUNDING.


WLOK-AM MEMPHIS RADIO OWNER HONORED BY TENNESSEE ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTERS (TAB)

MR. ART GILLIAM RECEIVED THE ASSOCIATION'S HIGHEST HONOR, THEIR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD IN NASHVILLE TN.
